Find a comfortable position, either lying down or seated... Allow your body to settle... and gently close your eyes if that feels right for you... Begin by simply noticing your natural breath... the gentle rise and fall of your chest... the subtle coolness of the air as it enters... and the warmth as it leaves... No need to change anything... just awareness... Now, let’s gently deepen the breath... Inhale slowly through your nose... and exhale even more slowly through your mouth... letting the out-breath be a little longer... and at the end of the exhale... a brief pause... a moment of stillness... Inhale slowly... exhale longer... and pause... Bring your hands to rest gently on your belly... As you breathe in, feel your belly soften and expand... As you breathe out, feel it gently fall... Breathing into this space of calm... releasing any held effort from the day... Now, let the breath move into your chest... Feel your ribcage expand softly on the inhale... and soften completely on the exhale... Releasing any tightness around your heart... Perhaps Tuesday brought a busy energy, a push to get things started... You can let that push go now... Bring your awareness to your shoulders and neck... On your next exhale, let them soften... let them drop away from your ears... Imagine any tension from carrying the day’s responsibilities melting down your back... "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest..." Now, allow this softening to travel down through your body... Your arms and hands becoming heavy and relaxed... Your spine softening, supported completely... Your hips, legs, and feet releasing all the way down into the surface beneath you... Letting go, layer by layer... Settle into this deep stillness... Your breath is calm... your body is at ease... There is nothing to do... and nowhere you need to be... Simply resting in this quiet peace... Whenever you’re ready, you can begin to gently wiggle your fingers and toes... Take a full, refreshing breath... and when it feels right, slowly open your eyes... Carry this sense of calm release with you into your rest.
