Find a comfortable position, either lying down or sitting up, with your back supported... Let your eyes gently close... Begin by simply noticing the breath as it is... the natural rhythm of the air moving in... and moving out... No need to change anything... just observing the tide of your own being... Now, gently begin to deepen the breath... Inhaling slowly through the nose... and exhaling even more slowly through the mouth... Let the exhale be a little longer than the inhale... and at the end of the exhale, find a quiet pause... a moment of pure stillness... before the next breath begins again... Place a hand gently on your belly... Let your next breath flow down into this space... feeling your hand rise with the inhale... and fall with the exhale... This is the breath of rest... the breath of release... Now let your awareness rise to your chest... With your next inhale, feel a gentle expansion across your heart space... and with the exhale, feel a deep softening... a letting go of any need to hold on... Let the weekend's activities, its joys or its busyness, simply melt away with the breath... Bring a soft attention to your shoulders and neck... areas that often carry the weight of the week... Inhale, and with the exhale, imagine a warm, heavy blanket of relaxation draping over them... softening every muscle... releasing every last bit of tension you’ve been holding... Let the freedom of Saturday evening be permission to truly put it all down... Now, let that feeling of softening begin to travel... Down through your arms... your hands... and out through your fingertips... Down through your torso... your hips... Down through your legs... your feet... and out through your toes... A wave of gentle, heavy release... flowing all the way down to the earth... You are safe... you are supported... you can let go... Rest in this deep stillness... In the quiet space between effort and sleep... There is nothing to do... and nowhere to be... Simply abide in this peace. *"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety."* When you are ready, very gently, begin to bring a soft awareness back to the room... to the feeling of your body resting... Take one more full, easy breath... and as you exhale, carry this calm with you into the night...
