Let this evening be a gentle closing of the Lord’s Day… a time to return the gift of this holy rest… back to the One who gave it. Begin by finding a comfortable position… letting your body be supported… and simply noticing the breath as it is… the natural rhythm of life within you… given for this day. Now, gently deepen that breath… drawing it in slowly… and releasing it with a longer, softer sigh… letting go… and pausing in the quiet emptiness after the exhale… *In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength…* Feel that promise in the pause. Place a hand gently on your belly… and breathe into that space… letting it rise softly with the inhale… and fall completely with the exhale… releasing any need to hold onto the day’s activities… or its conversations. Let the breath expand now into your chest… feeling the ribs widen… and then soften… releasing any subtle tension around your heart… making space for gratitude… for the peace of this day set apart. Bring your awareness to your shoulders and neck… carrying the posture of the day… and with your next exhale, let them soften… let them drop… releasing any lingering sense of duty or effort… surrendering the work… and the rest… back to God. Now, allow that softening to travel slowly down through your body… through your arms and hands… your spine… your legs and feet… a wave of release moving downward… letting every part of you settle into this moment of stillness… heavy… and at peace. Rest here in this quiet completeness… in the silent echo of the day’s blessing… having ceased from your labors as He did from His… held in the deep stillness of the evening. When you are ready, gently deepen your breath once more… and begin to bring gentle movement back to your fingers and toes… carrying this peace with you… into your sleep… and into the week to come.
